- Downtown Hanceville is seen February 26.
A long-term downtown improvement plan for Hanceville is officially coming soon, but it’s not quite here just yet.
The Hanceville City Council agreed Tuesday to table a vote to approve a long-developing downtown improvement package, which already has cleared both the city planning commission and, after Tuesday’s regular council meeting, a required public hearing.
Mayor Kenneth Nail said tabling a vote on the plan would give all city council members more time to fully understand the plan as it’s been written, while following up with questions and suggestions.
The plan, which the city developed in conjunction with the North Alabama Regional Council of Governments (NARCOG), mainly targets physical improvements to the city’s downtown area via a Community Development Block Grant. Although it’s largely finished, the council agreed to wait until its next meeting to thoroughly vet the details before agreeing to finalize it.
