Three Cullman businesses were granted alcohol licenses Monday, as the Cullman City Council waved through a batch of license applications after receiving favorable recommendations from the city’s alcohol committee.
Rock n Roll Sushi, located at the northern corner of the Market Platz shopping center, as well as the Cullman Bowling Center, located in west Cullman on Tallyho Street, each received approval for on-site alcohol sales subject to compliance with local and state requirements.
Cabin Fever Beverages, located just north of the Alabama Highway 157-U.S. Highway 31 intersection on Pear Drive, received approval for an off-site consumption package store license.
The council approved all three applications unanimously.
In other business at its regular meeting Monday, the council:
• Passed a resolution approving a $359,036.25 bid award to Powe General Contracting to carry out construction work for the fifth phase of the city’s ongoing streetscape improvement project, to improve sidewalks and accessibility between 1st Avenue and 3rd Avenue along U.S. Highway 278 East. The city’s contribution represents a 20 percent funding match for the federal Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP)-funded project. Similar to previous phases of work along Highway 31 and other portions of Highway 278, the streetscape work will add red brick sidewalks, additional lighting, and handicap-accessible crossing points along both sides of the highway.
• Passed a resolution approving an amendment to the existing engineering contract for the Larkwood Bridge replacement project, which will restore the Convent Road bridge washed out by winter floods in late 2015. The amendment reflects an administrative change and does not alter the project budget.
• Approved a series of low bids for vehicles and equipment, including: a $51,000 bid to Hays & Son Oil Company for the purchase of a Ford F-650 Super Duty work truck; a $60,674.30 bid to Mitch Smith Chevrolet for the purchase of a 2019 seven-passenger SUV; and a $45,750 bid to Hydro Service and Supplies for the purchase of a portable trailer-mounted trash pump.
• Approved a request from Cullman Parks and Recreation recreational development director Christy Turner for a special event permit to hold a Christmas Parade, Tree Lighting Ceremony, and Christmas Concert along First Avenue and Depot Park on Nov. 30. The parade is set to begin at 6 p.m., with music and a tree lighting in the park at 7 p.m.
