Cordova simply couldn’t slow down Rylan Jones last Friday night.

The senior quarterback completed 8 of 9 passes for 202 yards and four touchdowns in West Point’s 55-14 triumph over the Blue Devils. He also added a rushing touchdown for the Warriors in the home blowout.

The touchdown tosses covered 12 yards (Will Franklin Cochran), 32 yards (Levi Farley), 50 yards (Whitt Laney) and 56 yards (Hunter Persall), while the ground score came on a 1-yard sneak.

A potential fifth touchdown pass — 60 yards to Persall — was called back due to a penalty.

Jones is the easy pick for The Times’ Athlete of the Week.

Persall racked up 172 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. He claimed three catches for 64 yards and a score as well.

Cochran also threw a 55-yard touchdown strike to Kolton Sapp on a double pass.

Farley (six tackles and 32 receiving yards), Laney (an interception and 95 receiving yards) and Brayden Martin (seven tackles, 60 rushing yards and a touchdown) also contributed for West Point.

Athlete of the Week, which is sponsored by Mitch Smith Chevrolet, is open to all local athletes.
