PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Four squads, three individuals collect sectional crowns; Several local runners qualify for state meet

Four local teams and three area individuals qualified for the upcoming state cross country meet with respective sectional championships last Friday.
St. Bernard swept its Class 3A division, while Cold Springs’ girls and Cullman’s boys grabbed team crowns in 1A-2A and 6A, respectively.

Cold Springs’ boys, Cullman’s girls, Fairview’s boys and Holly Pond’s girls (second), Fairview’s girls and Good Hope’s girls (third) and Holly Pond’s boys (fourth) also advanced as complete squads.
The top four teams, as well as the top six runners not tied to those particular groups, moved on to the state meet, which is scheduled for Nov. 10 at Oakville Indian Mounds.
Cullman’s Will Thompson, Good Hope’s Bijou Phillips and Holly Pond’s Camilla Chambers corralled individual titles.

Only the top five runners are listed for advancing teams, though they’ll be represented by up to 10 runners at the state meet.
