On Tuesday, October 30, Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs officially proclaimed the month of October 2018 “Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) Month” in the City of Cullman. Proclamations were presented to both the Alpha Theta and Beta Delta chapters of Alpha Delta Kappa in Cullman. Linda Creel and Barbara Guthrie were present to accept the proclamation for the Alpha Theta chapter. Linda Walker, Rhonda Van Zandt, and Mary Ellen Holmes were present to accept on behalf of the Beta Delta chapter.
Alpha Delta Kappa is an international honorary organization for women educators dedicated to educational excellence, altruism, and world understanding. The organization seeks to give recognition to outstanding women educators, build a fellowship among women in the field of education, promote high standards of education, promote educational and charitable projects and activities, sponsor scholarships, further and maintain worthy standards in education, cooperate with community programs relating to education and charities, and contribute to world understanding, goodwill, and peace. Membership is honorary and based on peer recognition.
In Cullman, there are two chapters: Alpha Theta and Beta Delta. The organization has groups at the local, state, and international levels. The sorority is actively involved in promoting educational excellence, especially by our scholarship program. Other altruistic projects include supporting Children’s Hospital of Alabama, St. Jude’s Hospital, Alzheimer’s research, and many charitable efforts at the local level.
“I urge everyone to thank our Alpha Delta Kappa members, and all retired educators, for their many contributions to the field of education and service to our community,” said Mayor Woody Jacobs.
