Recap: Mortimer Jordan, Corner come through with region wins

It was never in doubt.
No. 7 Mortimer Jordan (9-1, 7-0 Class 5A, Region 5) went to Moody on Friday night and polished off region play with a decisive win—the Blue Devils’ ninth in a row after falling to Pleasant Grove in the season opener.
Daniel Franklin started things off with an early 5-yard touchdown rush and the rout was on. Franklin finished with two touchdown scampers in the win. As a team, Mortimer Jordan went for 379 total yards (204 rushing and 175 passing).
Quarterback Kourtlan Marsh brought the first quarter to an end with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Garrison McCleney for a 21-0 lead. Marsh finished 9 for 13 through the air for 175 yards and the touchdown.
Mortimer Jordan went to the half with a 34-0 lead.
Keondrick Hankins ran for 82 yards and two touchdowns for the Blue Devils. He pushed in from 2 yards out in the second quarter and later ran 57 yards to the end zone in the second.
Mortimer Jordan junior Grant Ezekiel went for a 98-yard pick-6 in the third quarter, sealing the game at 41-0.
The Blue Devils are idle next week before the playoffs.
Corner 33, Lawrence County 14
Corner (5-4, 4-3 Class 5A, Region 7) locked up a playoff spot on Friday night.
The Yellow Jackets went to region foe Lawrence County and came back with a 33-14 win. Corner closes out the regular season with a trip to Oakman next week.
