Vaping will now fall under the Clean Air Act following a unanimous vote of the Cullman City Council on Monday.

Dr. Scott Warner of Cullman recommended the move to the City Council at the Sept. 25 meeting, citing information from the Surgeon General that electronic cigarettes contain harmful ingredients.

The ordinance forbids smoking tobacco products inside public buildings and requires that smokers not be in the doorways outside a business while using tobacco, and now vaping.

The Clean Air Act still allows businesses some choices about the use of tobacco indoors.

In other actions, the City Council approved the following:

• A request from Shannon Witcher for a special event permit to hold a Trunk or Treat in the Warehouse District for Grace Chapel on October 26, 2018 from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m.
• A request from Johnann Moore for a special event permit to hold a family friendly Block Party in the Warehouse District to celebrate the one year anniversary of Mae’s Food Hall on October 26, 2018 and October 27, 2018.
• A request from Kelly Keel of Legacy Realty Group for a special event permit to hold a Trunk or Treat at 1844 Second Avenue NW on October 27, 2018 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., contingent on other businesses agreeing to close the block.
• A request from Rebekah Mickle of Cullman First Baptist Church for a special event permit to hold their Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat on October 31, 2018 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., contingent on other businesses agreeing to close the block.
• A request from Karen Speegle of Seventh Street Baptist Church for a special event permit to hold their Fall Festival on October 31, 2018 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
• A request from Keith Peinhardt of Buettner Brothers Lumber Company for a special event permit to hold a Contractor and Customer Appreciation Luncheon on November 9, 2018 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
• A request from Ronald Stevenson of Corner Ministries for a special event permit for sidewalk ministry at various dates and times in Cullman subject to prior approval by the Police Chief.
• First Reading of Ordinance No. 2019-03 to approve the 2019 Severe Weather Preparedness Tax Holiday.
• Resolution No. 2019-11 to enter into a professional services contract with KPS Group, Inc. for the development of subdivision regulations, neighborhood development regulations, and zoning ordinances.
• Resolution No. 2019-12 to hold a special called Cullman City Council Meeting on November 2nd, 2018 at Noon.
• Resolution No. 2019-13 to enter into a professional services contract with Thompson Engineering, Inc. for Eva Road Bridge.
• Council members and Mayor Wood Jacobs also recognized the service of four Cullman Police Department officers.
• Officer Kyle Foshee for his actions leading to the arrest of two women involving a financial scam operation in North Alabama.
• Capt. Bobby Kelley for 35 years of service and his mentoring to younger officers.
• Lt. Jason Mickle for 20 years of service and his leadership of the department’s Crime Supression Units.
• Officer John Anderson for 15 years of service and his role as the School Resource Officer at Cullman High School.
