The name of the pedestrian who was killed on U.S. 278 West on Thursday night has been released.
Janis Simmons, 74, of Cullman, was pronounced dead at the scene after she was hit by a pickup truck near the Rosemont Avenue intersection and West Elementary School, said Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick.
Simmons was using a walker while she attempted to cross south on U.S. 278, Cullman Police Officer Joey Duncan reported.
Police closed the road for about an hour after the accident during their investigation. Duncan and fellow traffic homicide officer Jonathan England, who is leading the investigation, were at the scene.
A man was struck by an 18-wheeler two weeks ago near the area where Simmons died. Police said he suffered serious injuries but survived.
