MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Gubernatorial candidate Walt Maddox is asking Alabama Governor Kay Ivey to release more information on her 2015 hospitalization, including if her office told the state trooper accompanying her to keep it secret.
Maddox said in a Thursday press conference the issue is not Ivey’s health, but if there was lying about what happened.
Maddox told reporters, “this is about a cover up.”
Ivey says she developed altitude sickness during the Colorado trip. She’s disputing allegations by former law enforcement secretary Spencer Collier, who says the trooper serving as Ivey’s bodyguard reported she was hospitalized for stroke-like symptoms and an Ivey staffer directed him not to tell his bosses.
Ivey said Tuesday that Maddox is pushing Collier’s accusation ahead of the Nov. 6 election, “because his liberal record is not connecting.”
