PREP FOOTBALL: St. Bernard’s Guthery named Athlete of the Week

- St. Bernard's Caleb Guthery.
St. Bernard’s Caleb Guthery has officially hit his stride.
And not a moment too soon, either.
The junior speedster secured a time of 17:12.94 at last Tuesday’s Hay of a Run in Fairview to win his first-ever varsity cross country race across all classifications. The Saints finished second as a team.
He then posted a time of 17:08.92 at Tuesday’s Athens Bible Invitational to collect a victory in the small-school competition (Class 1A-3A) and propel St. Bernard to the team title.
With tremendous results like that, it’s no wonder Guthery is The Times’ Athlete of the Week.
Athlete of the Week, which is sponsored by Mitch Smith Chevrolet, is open to all local athletes.
Nominations can be sent to jwinfrey@cullmantimes.com with the person’s name, school and statistics.
