Mortimer Jordan rolls through Munford

The eighth-ranked Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils made quick work of Munford on Thursday night.

Junior quarterback Kourtlan Marsh accounted for two first-quarter touchdowns as Mortimer Jordan cruised to a 45-6 road win, extending its winning streak to seven games. With two region games remaining (Springville on Oct. 19 and at Moody on Oct. 25), the Blue Devils (7-1, 5-0 Class 5A, Region 5) remain atop the league standings and hope to earn the playoff 1-seed for the third year in a row.

Thursday night’s win represents 20 consecutive region wins for Mortimer Jordan, dating back to the 2015 season.

Coming off a short week and a dramatic last-second win over Clay-Central, the Blue Devils jumped out to 38-0 halftime lead. Jordan added another touchdown in the second half—a 1-yard plunge by Jermaine Johnson midway through the third quarter.

Marsh worked his way to the end zone three times, finishing with 147 yards on the ground. He ran in a 37-yard touchdown early in the first quarter and bounced right back for a 43-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Pannell. Marsh capped his night with a 32-yard score to Garek Hall midway through the second.

Junior kicker Ferram Sanchez ended the first half with a 27-yard make as time expired.

Mortimer Jordan dominated the Lions on the ground 313-107. In total, the visitors rang up 420 yards of offense and held Munford to 224 yards.

The Lions’ only score of the hight went 37 yards from Ja’isiam Tuck to Ethan Swinford late in the third quarter.

Daniel Franklin, the star of last week’s show, turned three carries into two Mortimer Jordan touchdowns. Brody Harris caught seven passes for 54 yards.

Mortimer Jordan stays in region play next week when Springville comes to Jimmie Trotter Stadium.
