The Hanceville City Council previewed the busy upcoming lineup of local activities at an otherwise light city council meeting Thursday, starting with this weekend’s Mud Creek Marching Festival, the annual marching band exhibition hosted by Hanceville High School.

Kicking off at noon Saturday and continuing with marching bands from across North Alabama until the Hanceville band takes the field at 7:30 p.m., the festival will be held at the Ray Talley Stadium on the school’s campus. You can find out more by searching “mudcreekmarching” on Facebook.

Next weekend will see the return of the Mud Creek Arts and Crafts Festival in the downtown Hanceville, an annual civitan-sponsored benefit for the school’s art, theatre and music programs.

With fall-themed outdoor decoration, food trucks, tons of arts and crafts, and live traditional Irish music from A Shamrock in Kudzu, the festival marks the unofficial start of fall for many Hanceville residents, and has become a yearly, must-do outing for those who’ve experienced it a first time.

The Mud Creek Arts and Crafts festival is a free-admission event (fundraising is done through the sale of vendor booths and via sponsorships), and will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Contact Michele Allen at 256-352-1214 or via email at hanceville251@yahoo.com for more information about being a food or items vendor.

In other business at its regular meeting, the council:

– Tabled action on awarding a contract bid for maintenance of Mud Creek.

– Changed the date of its second meeting next month to Tuesday, Nov. 27.

– Approved the minutes from its last regular meeting.

The next city council meeting will be held Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. at Hanceville City Hall. A public work session will precede the meeting at 5:30 p.m.
