Fairview’s boys and St. Bernard’s girls corralled the small-school titles at Tuesday’s Randolph XC Classic in Huntsville, while Hanceville’s Aaron Brown nabbed the individual crown in the Class 1A-4A competition.

The Aggies (92) edged the Saints (98) in the 22-team field behind stellar performances from Daniel Cook (11th), Peyton Bailey (13th), Keagan Hardin (23rd), A.B. Diaz (30th) and Will Butler (47th).

Caleb Guthery guided St. Bernard with a fifth-place showing, while Joey McCarthy (12th), Joseph Arriaga (28th), Francis Mami (38th) and David DeJesus (44th) pitched in speedy times as well.

Fairview coach Hobson Hite was happy to see his squad pull off the win.

“I was proud of them,” he said. “I challenged them to step up. We’ve been back-and-forth with St. Bernard so far this season. The boys did well, though. They’re getting better every time they go out. It was another good outing for them. Two races in four days is not usually what I like to do, but they really like this course and put themselves in a position to win a trophy.”

Brown, meanwhile, dazzled with a 17:05.26 to finish as the top individual.

Chloe Tumbo (sixth), Emma Powell (seventh), Claire Sanders (eighth), Aria McMillan (22nd) and Kathleen George (41st) were the fastest runners for the Lady Saints, who bested runner-up Hatton by 15 points in a 15-team field.

St. Bernard coach William Calvert was equally pleased with his team’s effort.

“We had no idea what to expect from the girls this year,” he said. “They’re off to a surprisingly good start. We’re excited about the possibilities now.”

Angelica Antibero (12th), Alyssa Harper (19th), Carrington Chambers (30th), Kennedy Chambers (33rd) and Brianna Lodge (37th) helped Fairview’s girls snag a third-place finish.
