Six electrical linemen from the Cullman Electric Cooperative have been dispatched to North Carolina as Hurricane Florence pounds the region.
Others may be called on from the Cullman Power Board, a decision that will be made by Sunday, said Power Board Director Mike Manning.
Cullman Electric Cooperative sent the linemen Thursday along with two bucket trucks and another vehicle, said Brian Lacy, spokesman for the Co-Op.
The local crew will work with the Brunswick Electric Membership Cooperative in North Carolina.
“The service territory is along the coast between Wilmington and North Myrtle Beach,” Lacy said. “We are a member of the Alabama Rural Electric Association which works with similar organizations in other states to determine where our people are needed.” Lacy said.
Brunswick is the second largest electric cooperative in North Carolina with 94,000 meters. Cullman Electric Cooperative has 43,000 meters
Cullman Electric Cooperative posted a photo and announcement of the assistance on its Facebook page. The post read:
“Duty calls once again. Six of our linemen have just left out headed toward #HurricaneFlorence. These brave and talented men will assist the North Carolina cooperatives in the restoration efforts needed in the coming days. Please keep these men, their families, and all others impacted by the storm in your thoughts and prayers. Let everyone return home safely.”
Manning said Cullman Power Board has two bucket trucks and an additional vehicle ready when the determination is made.
“We will be watching closely and see where we may be needed,” Manning said. “We work through organizations that offer each other’s states assistance.”
