The Tabernacle Christian football team looks to the sideline during a home win over Hope Christian.

The depth disadvantage for Tabernacle Christian (2-1) was not a problem on Friday night, as the Torches demolished the Lighthouse Warriors (0-3) 50-8 in Moncreif Park.

“We caught the ball well. Our quarterbacks gave our receivers a chance to catch it, and the receivers did a great job of going to catch the football,” said Tabernacle head coach Keith Dabbs, when asked what the key aspect was to the big win.

Tabernacle senior Isaac Anderson did it all. He threw the ball, ran the ball, caught the ball, and got after it defensively. Anderson had four total touchdowns: three receiving and one on the ground.

Another Tabernacle senior, Carson Starkey, was the team’s leader through the air. Starkey completed six of nine passes, with three of them resulting in touchdowns. The eight-man squad of Tabernacle sparked a 30-0 run throughout the first half. By the end of the game, the Torches racked up 7 total touchdowns.

Lighthouse struggled to produce offensively. The Warriors were brought down in the backfield nine times by the Torches throughout the night.

Leading the ground game for Tabernacle was junior Josiah Davis. Davis rushed for 67 yards on five attempts and broke loose for two touchdowns (14 yards and 37 yards).

Tabernacle will seek to improve its 2-1 record in two weeks, as it travels to Columbus, Miss. to square off against Victory Christian (2-0). Lighthouse will have their eyes on their first win in two weeks, as the Warriors go to battle with Lyman Ward Military Academy (0-0) at home.
