Golfers will take another swing at a multitude of prizes, including $1 million, when the Cullman Regional Foundation’s Million Dollar Hole-In-One Extravaganza tees up in September.
Planned for Sept. 10 at TP Country Club, the 27th annual fundraiser will help purchase new cardiac monitors and defibrillators for the fleet of ambulances at Cullman Emergency Medical Services. The Foundation has set a goal of raising $85,000 through the Million Dollar Hole-In-One tournament.
The total cost of supplying the ambulances will be $350,000, with the Foundation planning to pay half through its fundraising efforts.
“The Foundation last helped purchase this type of equipment for the ambulances in 2008, so we need to provide them with equipment that is not new but brings the latest technology,” Foundation Executive Director Maria Stanford said.
The golf tournament has enjoyed strong community participation through its history. The tournament offers a chance for 18 four-person scrambles to compete in the morning and 36 four-person scrambles in the afternoon.
“We start the day with a putting contest and then the teams get started,” Stanford said. “We also have the helicopter golf ball drop, for which we sell chances to win a thousand dollars. When the tournament is concluded we have the hole-in-one contest, which has a million-dollar prize for anyone who does it.”
Hole-in-ones during the tournament don’t count for the $1 million prize, but other prizes are available if that happens before the final event.
“We’ve had this happen in past tournaments and they won prizes; it’s always an exciting time and everyone has really enjoyed the competition and helping out for a good cause. A lot of businesses, industries and individuals have participated for many years and we’re grateful for their support,” Stanford said.
Golfers pay $150 each to participate in the scramble. Sponsorships are offered at a variety of levels to help raise money.
