Lots of special events on horizon

Downtown Cullman will be getting a little busier in the coming months after special event permits were approved by the Cullman City Council Monday night.
The council approved special event permit requests to Monograms Plus owner Lynsey Todd to hold the Sidewalk/Street Sale on Sept. 7-8 and the annual Christmas Open House on Nov. 9-11 in the Cullman Warehouse District.
The council also approved a request from Michael Sapp of the Cullman Downtown Merchants Association for a special event permit to hold the annual Celebrate Cullman Downtown Festival on Aug. 10 from 4-9 p.m.
A special event permit request from Sue Turner of the Cullman Life Chain was also approved, with the 15th Annual Life Chain taking place on the sidewalks around the Cullman County Courthouse on Oct. 20 from 12:30-2 p.m.
In other business, the council:
Recognized Cullman County Emergency Management Agency Director Phyllis Little for receiving the Alabama Association of Emergency Managers’ Pat Neuhauser Spirit of EMA Award for her tireless work for the community.
Recognized Cullman County Museum Director Elaine Fuller for her years of service to the city and upcoming retirement.
Approved Ordinance No. 2018-34 to vacate and surplus city-owned property located at 1638 Brantley Ave NW, which is no longer needed for public or municipal purposes.
Approved Resolution No. 2018-66 to award the bid for roof replacement at Cullman Fire Station No. 2 to the lowest responsible bidder, Willoughby Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc., in the amount not to exceed $120,900.
Approved Ordinance No. 2018-67 to adopt the City of Cullman Position Control Detail.
Approved Ordinance No. 2018-68 to convey parcels necessary for the right of way for the replacement and construction of Eva Road Bridge.
