BIRMINGHAM (AP) — An Alabama teen has been indicted in a shooting of a pregnant woman that led to the fetus’ death.
Al.com reported Friday that 19-year-old Avery Robert Turner has been indicted by a grand jury on a charge of capital murder. Police say a pregnant woman was shot in the abdomen and was taken to a hospital in April. They say an autopsy showed the fetus died as a direct result of the wounds the woman sustained in the shooting. Police haven’t released the woman’s name.
Authorities have said the woman was targeted. No possible motive has been released. Authorities have said Avery wasn’t related to the fetus and didn’t have a relationship with the woman.
A trial date hasn’t been set yet. It’s unclear if Turner has a lawyer.
