A U.S. mail carrier was injured Saturday when the vehicle she was driving hydroplaned and flipped on Cherokee Avenue Southwest near the intersection of County Road 222.

Margie Beth Powell. 48, of Falkville, was driving the silver Jeep Wrangler when it rolled several times into a grassy area, said Cullman Police Lt. Jeff Warnke.

“It was one of those pop-up storms Saturday morning and it didn’t even affect the rest of the city,” Warnke said. “After the wreck two more of the storms came up while the responders were trying to work the area. It flooded quickly in that area.”

Powell was reported to have a head injury after the vehicle flipped and rolled, Warnke said.

“I know the mail had to be sent back to Birmingham after the wreck because a lot of it was damaged,” he said. “The storm came up so quickly and flooded the area while she was driving.”
