Hanceville, Holly Pond, Vinemont and West Point were the only high schools from The Times’ coverage area to go fine- and ejection-free for the 2017-18 school year, according to annual data released by the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) this week.
Six local high schools combined to cough up $1,750 for 10 total infractions — down from $3,300 and 15 total infractions in 2016-17 — with penalties stemming from ejections, an audit fine, an academic rule violation, an outside participation rule violation and a head coach not attending a rules clinic.
Addison’s $600 bill was the highest for a local high school with Cullman next in line at $550.
The Bulldogs, Broncos, Eagles and Warriors will be recognized, along with the state’s other spotless high schools, at the AHSAA Summer Conference Sportsmanship Luncheon in Montgomery this summer.
