GOOD HOPE — An update to Good Hope’s zoning ordinance will proceed after the Good Hope City Council approved a work order that was tabled at last month’s meeting.
In June, the council passed a resolution to work with Kendig Keast Collaborative to review the city’s zoning ordinance and look for any inconsistencies or conflicts that may affect future city planning.
The work order was tabled at the council’s June 25 meeting to get a clarification on some of the wording, and it was passed on Monday night to lets the firm begin the first step in a four-part plan to create better organized and more user-friendly zoning ordinances for the city.
Any changes that are recommended by the firm will still have to go through the city’s planning commission and be passed by the City Council, but they will provide a guide to help Good Hope stay up-to-date on its ordinances and make the city more attractive for developers, Good Hope Mayor Jerry Bartlett said.
“They want to upgrade it and simplify it so it’s not so wordy,” he said. “They’re going to give us advice on how to do ours to make it more efficient and help us with developers.”
In other business, the council approved two amended resolutions that dealt with the upcoming move of AGCOR Steel into the city. One change amended the land title holder to HBLM LLC, and the other changed the capital investment amount that AGCOR is providing from $3.4 million to $4 million.
Those amended resolutions were needed because of the tax abatements that AGCOR is receiving for their move, Bartlett said.
