Cullman Police apprehend man who was barricaded in vacant building

Cullman Police have apprehended a man inside a vacant commercial building after an hour and a half of negotiating.
Police Chief Kenny Culpepper said police had received reports that the person had made comments that raised concerns and a team of officers were able to get the person to surrender.
The incident started around 5:30 p.m. The building once housed Manning Mattress as is about two blocks west of Cullman High School at 2nd Avenue and 13th Street.
Details of the situation are not available, but Culpepper said mental health professionals have been contacted to assist. The name of the person or whether he was armed were not released.
“I want to thank the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance,” Culpepper said.
