Johnny Whaley set to lead Vinemont Middle School

Vinemont Middle School will have a new principal in the fall after the Cullman County Board of Education approved a transfer request Tuesday night.

Johnny Whaley will be leaving his position as Vinemont High School assistant principal to take over as principal of the middle school.

Whaley said he has been at Vinemont for the past 15 years, but he is looking forward to beginning work at Vinemont Middle School.

“We’ve got a great school and great kids,” he said. “And I am very fortunate and blessed to be a part of the school’s community.”

Dr. Vicky Spear recently was named principal of West Point Middle School. She was previously at Vinemont Middle School.

Approved May 21 meeting minutes.

Approved summer school personnel.

Approved request from Good Hope Primary School to pay $700 to Joey Overton and $500 to Scotty Cofer for labor to refinish the gym floor this summer, paid by the Good Hope Youth Basketball Association.

Approved a request from West Point High School to pay a supplement of $950 to Seth Ward and $3,050 to Stephen Bryson, who are faculty baseball coaches.

Approved April 2018 financial statements.

Approved April 2018 bills and salaries in the amount of $8,618,606.20.

Approved Budget Amendment FY2018.

Approved an out-of-state field trip request for Cold Springs Middle and High School cross country teams to travel to Chicago for a camp on July 25.

Approved a maintenance department bid of $324,777 to P.G. Wells Enterprises, Inc. for Good Hope High School electrical upgrades and renovation.

Approved a request from the Child Nutrition Program to adjust lunch costs: student paid lunch increased from $2.35 to $2.45, CCBOE employee lunch increased from $3.35 to $3.50 and visitor lunch increased from $3.60 to $4.

Approved a request from the Child Nutrition Department for the Chuld Adult Care Food Program/ At-Risk Program to be implemented at Harmony School.

Approved a request from the Child Nutrition Department to pay Deloris Clark, Denise Hardin, Vickie Wood and Deborah Heaton their hourly rate from the CACFP budget fund to work the CACFP At-Risk Program at Harmony School.

Approved all Cullman County Schools and the Central Office to dispose of and/or sell by sealed bid any non-operational/obsolete technology equipment, classroom/library equipment, office equipment, furniture, televisions and electronics for the 2018-19 school year.

Approved a resolution for the base annual salary of Superintendent Shane Barnette to increase by 2.5 percent effective July 1, consistent with the pay raise for all state employees.

Approved an amendment to Barnette’s contract to add $7,100 to his annual salary after he received his doctorate degree. The pay increase is the same amount given to principals who also receive their doctorates.

The Cullman County Board of Education will next meet on July 23 at 6 p.m. in the Central Office Board Room, with a work session preceding the meeting at 5:30 p.m.
