Prep football season is officially on the clock.
With spring practices wrapping up earlier this month, the nine local programs in The Times’ coverage area will head into their respective summer workouts ready to improve in every way possible ahead of the 2018 campaign, which is set to begin in late August.
Today, we’ll take a deeper look at Good Hope, Hanceville and Vinemont.
See Thursday’s print edition (Addison, Cold Springs and Cullman) and Saturday’s print edition (Fairview, Holly Pond and West Point) for complete coverage of all area squads.
And don’t forget to look for features, columns, fun lists and other preview pieces throughout the summer.
Good Hope
% 2017 Record: 4-6 (1-5 in Class 4A, Region 6)
% Key Losses: Kyle Carlton, Will Dickerson, Tucker Putman, Mason Moniz
% Key Returners: Matthew Dixon, Matt Hancock, Riley Kilpatrick, Jackson Hancock, Dylan McDonald, Isaiah Green, Bailey Quick, Preston Bagwell
% Spring Jamboree: Good Hope 21, Cleburne County 0
% Coach Speak: “The No. 1 thing was no injuries. For us to come out of spring healthy was a blessing. We’re thankful to be going into the summer feeling good. As far as scheme-wise, this is the first time in my career I’ve have an intact staff from one year to the next, so the kids were comfortable with what we did and the terminology. We tried some new things out. Some went great, others not so great. But, overall, it was a good positive vibe this spring.” — Alan Scott
“The leadership I saw from the seniors was really good to see. Seeing guys accept that role and go with it. Some things I’ve had to police in the past are being taken care of now. I was proud to see those roots had gotten a little deeper.” — Alan Scott

“I feel like we have a chance to be pretty good offensively. Hanceville’s always had a reputation of having good skill players, but I felt like the offensive line took a step forward and looked good all spring. I was surprised by that. Defensively, one of the concerns I had was being more physical and being better tacklers. There were improvements made, but there’s still more we need to work on with that.” — Cody McCain

“Our defense was absolutely flying around. Our offense was more focused and executed with consistency. We really had an excellent spring, and we capped it off with a dominant win. I believe that’s reassurance for our guys. It says we’re doing the right things. Keep working, and it will pay off. I’m excited heading into the summer, and I think our guys are as well. Looking forward to more progress.” — Stephen Robinson
