Cullman County School Board approves bids for storm damage repair

- The Cullman County School Board meet in Fairview High School’s library in May.
Repairs to Cullman County School facilities are set to begin after the Cullman County School Board approved bids by Mid America Roofing, Inc. to fix damage from the March 19 hailstorm.
The facility repairs included hail damage at the system’s bus barn and at Welti Elementary School. The bus barn bid was for the amount of $193,678, and the Welti repair bid was for $198,146.
All of the costs of the repairs will be paid by the system’s insurance, Cullman County Schools Superintendent Shane Barnette said during Monday night’s board meeting.
In other business, the board:
Approved to pay the following for up to five unused annual leave days, as per board policy: Ruth Martin, Clark Farley.
Approved a request from Cold Springs High School to pay Rod Elliot $1,800 for summer field maintenance, to be paid by the football booster club.
Approved a request from Fairview Elementary School to pay Caleb Elrod and Robert Strane $15 an hour as needed to move teachers’ classrooms, etc. to be paid by local school funds.
Approved a request from Good Hope Elementary School to pay Joey Overton $2,600 to clean, prep and wax tile floors this summer, to be paid by local school funds.
Approved a request from Good Hope High School to pay Patrick McDonald a supplement of $750 for coaching archery, to be paid from local school funds.
Approved a request from Holly Pond High School to pay Mike Bates a maximum of $2,500 for mowing and field maintenance on the athletic fields, to be paid by local school funds.
Approved the following requests from Welti Elementary, to be paid by local school funds: Joey Overton paid $800 to refinish the gym floor this summer, Brian O’Rear to mow and weedeat school property $200 per time.
Approved the following requests from West Point High School, to be paid by local school funds: Don Farley paid $1,500 for summer 2018 field maintenance and mowing, Randy Jones paid $1,200 for Athletic Director 2018-2019.
Approved a request from Hanceville Elementary to pay the following teachers a stipend of $50/day for two days in the summer to have a kindergarten camp for incoming 2018-19 kindergarten students, paid by local funds: Lauren Bentley, Monica Brown, Elizabeth Smith, Logan Sellers, Keisha Martin, Terri Taylor.
Approved a request from the following schools to offer drivers education this summer- tuition $150 per semester credit/ out of district tuition: $200 per semester credit:
West Point High School- first session to start June 4-8, 2018.
Holly Pond High School- First session to start June 4, second session to start July 9.
Approved a request from the following schools to offer summer school/ credit recovery- tuition $150 per semester credit/ out of district tuition: $200 per semester credit:
Cold Springs High School- session to start June 4-15.
Hanceville High School- session to start June 4-15.
Approved a request from Fairview Elementary School to offer a summer reading and math enrichment program- June 6-8, June 13-15, June 20-22 and June 27-29.
Approved March 2018 financial statements.
Approved March 2018 bills and salaries in the total of $7,727,016.25.
Approved a request of change order #1- Hanceville High School electrical upgrade- A&S Electrical: deduct $2,400 sales tax savings.
Approved a request of change order #1- Cullman Area Technology Academy reroofing, HVAC renovations, electrical upgrades and renovations- Kent Consolidates Construction: deduct $67,333 sales tax savings.
Approved an out-of-state field trip request for Cold Springs High School FCCLA, June 28 to Atlanta, Ga. for FCCLA National Competition.
Approved a request from Good Hope Primary School to declare the following as surplus and gave permission to sell by sealed bid: Exmark Riding Mower.
Approved to pay select teachers a stipend for district approved summer work and/or training, as per schedule, to be paid by state, federal or general funds.
Approved to pay the Chalkable designee at local schools a stipend of $1,000 paid by the local school and should include the creation of a master schedule of for the 2018-2019 school year that reflects the correct GPA credit, grad credit, weight and course titles/codes. Transcripts for the seniors of 2018-2019 should reflect correct GPA credit, grad credit, weight and course title/codes per board policy.
Approved a request from Cullman County Education Support Professionals for two days professional leave for employees listed to attend the AEA Leadership Conference in Mobile on June 14-15. CCESP will pay the two days substitute salary for Lavonne Osborne, and the other attendees will be Becki Klein, Ann Maddox, Taft Dillashaw, Rena Watson, Emily Blankenship and Rodney Turner.
Approved a request from the Cullman County Extension Office to use a Cullman County school bus to transport 4-H students from to Columbiana for summer 4-H camp, two dates: Misty Gaines, certified CCBOE bus driver will be driving June 4-6, and Dawn Holmes, certified CCBOE bus driver will be driving June 25-27.
Approved a request to provide transportation for “The friends of FCA” during the week of July 9-13, all expenses including fuel and driver pay will be paid by FCA.
Approved revised board policy 5.10.2- employee leave.
Approved the new coaches salary schedule.
After an executive session, the board:
Approved to notify certain probationary classified (support) personnel of the non-renewal of their contract for the 2087-2019 school year and approved request to provide notice in writing.
Approved to notify certain certified personnel of the non-renewal of their contract for the 2018-2019 school year and approved request to provide notice in writing.
Approved to notify certain personnel that their supplement/s will not be extended for the 2018-2019 school year and approved request to provide notice in writing.
The Cullman County School Board will next meet at 6 p.m. on June 12 in the Central Office Board Room, with a work session preceding the meeting at 5:30 p.m.
