Three Cullman County residents were charged with burglary after allegedly breaking into the Good Hope Municipal Park concession stand.

Devon Paul Durante, 22, of Cullman; Alexander Scott Morton, 19, of Holly Pond and Samantha Halee Weldon, 18 of Crane Hill were each charged with two counts of third degree burglary after being arrested Sunday night.

Good Hope Mayor Jerry Bartlett said the city and the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office were alerted to the break-in by a group of residents who came to the park Sunday afternoon and saw damage to the concession stand door.

He said the concession stand’s metal door was knocked down and much of the stand’s food and drinks were stolen, and the security camera inside the stand was broken.

The stand’s cash box and cash register were also broken into, but they were empty, Bartlett said.

After an afternoon of searching the area, Cullman County Sheriff’s investigator Joey Clark and State Rep. Corey Harbison, who is a reserve deputy, combined to arrest two of the suspects near the city’s storm shelter and arrest the third at a nearby campsite they had made, Bartlett said.

He said the total amount of damage is still being assessed, but there were several hundred dollars worth of food and drinks that were stolen, along with the smashed camera that is worth $300 and the metal door that could cost around $2,000.

Bartlett said he and Good Hope Parks and Recreation Director Dana Dunagan both posted the videos on the city’s Facebook pages, and members of the community helped identify the suspects.

“Within 30 minutes, I had two hits who knew exactly who they were,” he said.

Durante is being held in the Cullman County Detention Center with no bond due to warrants in other jurisdictions, and Weldon and Morton are being held on a $5,000 bond.
