HANCEVILLE — With the summer paving season approaching, the City of Hanceville has selected a trio of asphalt projects and awarded bids to resurface portions of local streets.
The Hanceville City Council signed off at its regular meeting Thursday on three paving projects to begin within the next few weeks, all located east of U.S. Highway 31.
The most visible of those is the paving of the 1,618-foot section of Edmondson Road that connects Blountsville Street with the railroad crossing near West Railroad Avenue. The road runs through a residential area but serves as one of the few municipal streets that spans the east and west sides of the railroad.
Public Works Superintendent Rusty Fields said the city already is working on a sidewalk project along Edmondson Road, and plans to have that work finished in time for the paving project to connect the asphalt with the sidewalk cement the city is laying across residential driveways.
The council also approved the paving of Linda Warren Circle in its entirety. The 1,701-foot circle intersects with Arkadelphia Road (Alabama Highway 91) at two points, looping south of the highway through a residential area.
A third paving project will lay asphalt across a 108-foot apron of road frontage along Section Line Road near its intersection with Highway 31.
The council awarded a materials bid of $58 per asphalt ton to C.A. Langford of Guntersville, with a projection that this summer’s paving will require between 700 and 900 tons of asphalt. Real Seal LLC of Cullman was awarded the labor contract at a price of $24 per asphalt ton.
In other business, the council:
Approved a $3,517.76 payment to Invoice World Net Enterprises, Inc. for the purchase of four Tasers and supporting equipment for the city police department. The money will be reimbursed to the city via a non-matching law enforcement grant administered via the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.
Approved bills payable for the past month.
The next regular council meeting will be held May 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Hanceville City Hall. A public work session will precede the meeting at 6 p.m.
