Dinner on First is almost ready

Catering staff prepare the evening’s first course behind the scenes during the 2017 at Dinner on First.

Dinner on First, Cullman Parks and Recreation’s award-winning community get-together to raise money for park projects throughout the city, is set to return next week for its third year since first transforming a section of historic Cullman into a picturesque outdoor dinner table.

Barring inclement weather, this year’s event will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, May 18th along First Avenue in the city’s Warehouse District. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m.

Organizers have always sought decorative thematic touches to put the experience over the top for guests who buy the $150 per-plate tickets, setting the mood with festive string lighting, candle-lit tables, and a pre-party featuring hors d’oeuvres and wine and beer at Mae’s Food Hall, as well as an 8:30 p.m. afterparty with a full-service cash bar.

Dyron’s Lowcountry restaurant will cater the event again this year, with a farm-to-table style presentation for the main meal.

As in past years, the 2018 iteration of Dinner on First will raise money for the city’s ongoing construction of the Connected Park, an all-abilities park that features innovative playground equipment and design to integrate activities for both disabled and non-disabled children.
