Two explosions reported to the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office Monday night yielded no explanation after a patrol of the Dodge City area.

An official with the Sheriff’s Office said two patrol units and volunteer firefighters patrolled an area in Dodge City off Alabama 69 where the explosions were heard.

The Sheriff Office official said the department receives numerous calls about explosions, typically during daylight hours, and often it turns out to be Tannerite, which is a a brand of binary explosive target used for firearms practice. The substance is legally sold. After investigating the area, deputies suspected that Tannerite may have been the sound residents heard.
