Roof repairs from the March 19 hailstorm are getting underway for Cullman City Schools.

In a special called meeting Friday morning, the Cullman City School Board approved a recommendation from Stephen Ward and Associates, Inc. for West Roofing Systems to install temporary roof repairs at East and West Elementary Schools.

Cullman City Schools Support Services Coordinator Hayden Faulk said the temporary repairs will consist of a foam sprayed on the roof of the buildings to seal them.

The team that will be spraying the foam should be able to begin the job Saturday morning and finish by Sunday, he said.

Faulk said all of West Elementary will need to be sprayed, but most of East’s campus is leak free with the exception of the building with the library and special education.

“We’ve got the others tarped,” he said. “They’re fine for now.”

The spray should get the schools through the next six weeks, and once school is out and the students are gone, the work to completely replace the roofing will begin, Faulk said.

“The job will last the whole summer,” he said.
