GOOD HOPE — AGCOR Steel’s move to Good Hope will require an addition to the city’s sewer system.

The Good Hope City Council awarded a bid for the project to CDG Engineers & Associates, Inc. Monday.

The sewer project will add a new pump station and holding area near the planned site for AGCOR’s facility. The estimated cost for the project is around $250,000.

AGCOR, a manufacturer and retailer of metal siding and metal trusses currently located in Vinemont, will be keeping its 25 current jobs and adding 25 more to the area once it moves to the 53-acre tract of land located on Industrial Park Road inside the Good Hope city limits.

AGCOR can’t begin its construction of the new facility until the new pump station is up and running.

“We’ve got to get the sewer worked out,” Bartlett said.

Good Hope is in the process of applying for a Community Development Block Grant to help cover the costs of the new pump station, but Bartlett said they do not know how much money they will be getting from the grant.

“There’s a lot of variables,” he said.

Whether the grant covers the whole cost of the project or covers a portion and requires the city to match, Good Hope welcomes the assistance in bringing AGCOR to the city and keeping jobs in Cullman County, Bartlett said.

“Grants are great for municipalities,” he said. “We will be happy with a grant at whatever cost they give us.”

In other business, the council awarded a bid for grant writing services to Community Consultants, Inc. and approved a motion to surplus a 2009 Ford F-350.
