PREP ROUNDUP: St. Bernard’s boys down Tanner on penalty kicks to secure area title

St. Bernard was taken to the absolute brink on Thursday night.
Fortunately for the Saints, however, they had just enough to get past the 1A-3A No. 10 Rattlers at home and collect a very big prize.
The Saints outlasted Tanner on penalty kicks (3-1) after two overtimes to secure the Area 7 title and improve to 8-3-1 on the season. They will host a first-round playoff match at a later date.
Christian Peterson booted the match’s first goal on an assist from Michael Bain Clemmons. The Rattlers tied things up with 15 minutes remaining on a penalty kick.
Peterson, Clemmons and John Christian Rose grabbed one goal apiece when it mattered most, though; and Anthony Diaz came up with two key saves to propel St. Bernard to the win and a celebration.
% Hoover 5, Cullman 1: The Class 6A No. 3 Bearcats dropped to 12-7-2 this season following a road loss to the 7A No. 3 Buccaneers on Thursday.

% Decatur 5, Cullman 1: The Class 6A No. 9 Lady Bearcats dropped to 11-7-3 this season following a home loss to the No. 7 Lady Red Raiders on Thursday.
% Tanner 3, St. Bernard 2: The Lady Rattlers kicked the go-ahead goal with four minutes left to squeak past the Lady Saints on the road on Thursday.
Yessi Pascual and Dani Hernandez booted the goals for St. Bernard, which trailed 2-0 at halftime.

% Cold Springs 4, Falkville 3: Kylon Hamby socked an RBI single in the eighth inning to lift the Lady Eagles to an area and road victory versus the Lady Blue Devils on Thursday.
With the win, Cold Springs (17-10) clinched the Class 2A, Area 12 regular season title.
Hamby (RBI) and Emily Williams claimed two hits apiece, while Anna Kate Voce (two RBIs), Lacey Rice (RBI), Victoria Freeman and Drew Sanders added one hit apiece. One of Voce’s hits was a home run.
% Hayden 16, Cullman 9: The Lady Bearcats couldn’t keep pace with the fourth-ranked team in Class 5A on Thursday despite collecting 19 hits in the contest.
Keslynn Grimmett, Ashlen Heatherly and Brandy Peoples each corralled three hits and one RBI, while Regan Quattlebaum (two RBIs), Hannah McPherson (RBI and Gracie Cook (RBI) provided two hits apiece.
Kennedy Wren (RBI), Savannah Davis, Faith Guest and Alex Stansell each nabbed one hit as well in the loss.
Peoples and Wren hit one home run apiece.
% West Point 15, Fairview 3: The Lady Warriors snagged a five-inning home victory on Thursday.
Molly Pendley (four RBIs) and Hope Shedd (three RBIs) racked up three hits apiece, while Gracie Abbott (RBI) and Avery McClure (RBI) delivered two hits apiece. One of Shedd’s hits was a home run.
Olivia Ball (one hit and two RBIs), Makayla Brown (one hit and two RBIs), Braelee Quinn (one hit and one RBI) and Carlie Wilkins (hit) also contributed.
Devan Fulmer collected two hits and two RBIs for the Lady Aggies in the loss.
Katie Ball (RBI), Kennedy Johnson and Kaitlyn Benson rounded out the offensive attack with one hit apiece.
% Southeastern 8, Hanceville 2: The Lady Bulldogs mustered just two hits in Thursday’s home loss.
Gordana Oden (RBI) and Alexia Edwards crafted singles for Hanceville.
