FULTONDALE—The Fultondale City Council on Monday approved a resolution to authorize Mayor Jim Lowery to negotiate and enter an agreement with AT&T First Net for cellular services for the city’s first responders. This will enable the first responders to access the first responder network, which will allow the city’s emergency staff to maintain communications in the event of an emergency.
“This ensures any time there is a major disaster or just something going on locally that might overload cell towers, the first responders’ communications systems will still work,” said council member and firefighter Josh Bryant.
Bryant also said that the move was made possible by recent federal legislation that created a devoted network for first responders.
In other business, the council also:
•approved a business license for the new owner of Faye’s Famous Franks under the name Firefighter Hounds, Inc. as applied for by Robb Huff.
•discussed that the next meeting on April 23 will return to the city hall building. Council meetings have been held at Fultondale Elementary and Fultondale Library since the city hall building burned early last year.
On Tuesday, the Fultondale City Council called a special meeting for April 11 at 1 p.m. to discuss the potential of acquiring real estate in the city. The meeting will be held at the Fultondale Library.
