PREP ROUNDUP: Good Hope, West Point stay perfect at Cullman County Softball Tournament

West Point’s step-by-step quest for its fifth straight county title went exactly as planned on Tuesday.

The Lady Warriors put together a few timely hits and played solid defense to snare an 8-4 win over Cold Springs on Day 2 of the Cullman County Softball Tournament in Hanceville.

West Point — now just one win away from a spot in the title game — used a four-run fourth inning to break a 4-4 tie en route to the victory.

Avery McClure provided two hits and one RBI, while Makayla Brown (RBI), Hope Shedd (RBI), Chasilyn Morrow, Braelee Quinn and Gracie Abbott slugged one hit apiece. Olivia Ball added one RBI.

West Point will take on Good Hope at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Cold Springs, which committed seven costly errors, received 

% Good Hope 6, Fairview 2: The Raiders led from start to finish in Tuesday’s triumph against the Lady Aggies.

Stats from the game, however, weren’t available by deadline.

Fairview will take on Hanceville at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in an elimination game.

% Cold Springs 10, Holly Pond 5: Crimson Gann (two RBIs), Anna Kate Voce (two RBIs) and Drew Sanders secured three hits apiece to lift the Lady Eagles to a victory over the Lady Broncos in Tuesday’s elimination tilt.

Kylon Hamby (two RBIs), Emily Williams and Lacey Rice added two hits apiece as well. Victoria Freeman (RBI) and Hayden Goodwin rounded out the offensive showcase with one hit apiece.

Holly Pond, which was eliminated following the loss, was paced by Kolby Holcombe (two hits and two RBIs).

Maddie Heatherly (two hits), Madyson Rickman (two hits), Gracie Bryan (hit) and Kalliann Perkins (hit) also had solid at-bats in the losing effort.

Cold Springs will duke it out with the winner of Fairview/Hanceville at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

% Cullman 5, Brewer 4: The Lady Bearcats tallied all five of their runs in the first inning en route to an area and road victory on Tuesday.

Savannah Davis collected three hits, while Kennedy Wren (RBI), Alex Stansell and Regan Quattlebaum secured two apiece. Faith Guest (hit), Ashlen Heatherly (hit), Keslynn Grimmett (hit) and Hannah McPherson (RBI) came up with solid contributions as well.

% Good Hope 15, Vinemont 0: The Lady Raiders coasted to a four-inning victory versus the Lady Eagles at the Cullman County Softball Tournament on Monday.

Skylar Tucker (two RBIs) and Erika Woodall tallied three hits apiece, while Angelina Flanagan (three RBIs), Abby Neighbors (two RBIs), Rebecca Norris (two RBIs) and Bailey Swann (RBI) each netted two hits. Jacqueline Hays (RBI), Kailee Shikle (RBI) and Raven Adams rounded out the offensive production with one hit apiece.

Tucker allowed just one hit and struck out two in the circle to secure the win.

Vinemont’s lone hit came off the bat of Kortnee Chaffin.

Prep Baseball

% Cold Springs 8, St. Bernard 3: The Eagles delivered a fine performance on Tuesday to notch an area victory.

Ayden Alexander (two hits), Jake Abbott (one hit and one RBI), Dylan Gable (one hit and one RBI), Brylan Aaron (RBI) and Roberto Ayala (RBI) were the top contributors for Cold Springs in the road win.

Anthony Diaz-Silva produced two hits and two RBIs for the Saints. Ethan Powell, Logan Crawford, Aiden Adcock and Gavin Whaley also tossed in one hit apiece.

% Cullman 14, Brewer 1: The Class 6A No. 7 Bearcats eased to a five-inning area victory on Tuesday.

Peyton Colvard (three hits and two RBIs) led the way for Cullman (22-8) offensively, while Brennen Norton (three RBIs) and Carson Freeman (RBI) added two hits apiece.

Grayson Taylor (one hit and three RBIs) pummeled a three-run homer in the first inning. Hayden Henderson (two RBIs), Brady Patterson (RBI), Will Morrison (RBI), Weston Norton and Cooper Beck all had one hit apiece.

Michael Myers picked up the road win on the mound, scattering two hits and seven strikeouts.

% Dora 3, Good Hope 2: The Raiders came up short in Tuesday’s area clash.

Tyler Legg (RBI), Jager Burns and Austin Eakes tallied one hit apiece in the eight-inning road loss.

% Vinemont 9, Hanceville 7: The Eagles scratched across five runs in the seventh inning to collect an area win against the Bulldogs on Tuesday.

Derrick Ransom (two RBIs), Clay Rogers (RBI), C.J. O’Neil (RBI) and Deacon Samples (RBI) had one hit apiece for Vinemont in the road triumph.

Justin Hoffman and Hudson Wood gathered up one RBI apiece as well.

Hanceville was paced by Alex Campbell (RBI) and Josh Stanley, both of whom had two hits apiece.

Tate Brown (RBI), Isaac Holmes (RBI), TJ Kubia (RBI), Ashton James, Dalton Rice and Kainen Cruce offered up one hit apiece to round out the offensive production.

Game 2 of the scheduled doubleheader wasn’t completed by deadline.
