PREP SPORTS: Fairview’s Boyd named Athlete of the Week
Published 4:18 pm Thursday, March 29, 2018
- Fairview's Truman Boyd.
Truman Boyd and Fairview’s baseball team are swinging some sizzling bats at the moment.
Over the past week, the Aggies secured four victories — improving to 12-8 on the season — and plated 69 runs in just seven games.
Boyd, a senior, has been at the forefront of his squad’s recent success.
He swatted 11 hits in 23 at-bats (.478 batting average) to go along with 12 runs, eight RBIs and a pair of three-hit games. Additionally, he pitched a complete game (five innings, five hits and eight strikeouts) in a 23-0 victory over Curry, clinching the area series. All in all, he hurled 10 2/3 innings, scattering four earned runs and 12 strikeouts over two games — good enough for a 3.37 ERA.
Those numbers are why Boyd is The Times’ Athlete of the Week.
Several other Fairview standouts produced solid weeks as well.
Garrett Dunn (10 runs, 14 hits and 12 RBIs), Dayne Black (four runs, 13 hits, seven RBIs), Lane Schnittker (nine runs, nine hits and eight RBIs) and Dalton Payne (nine runs, nine hits and six RBIs) also contributed at the plate for coach Brandon Tidmore’s squad.
Athlete of the Week, which is sponsored by Mitch Smith Chevrolet, is open to all local athletes.
