PREP ROUNDUP: Lady Aggies power past Good Hope; Cullman earns win against Lady Bulldogs

GOOD HOPE — Fairview’s softball team caught fire on Friday, securing 14 hits en route to an 11-6 victory against the Lady Raiders.

Katie Ball (three RBIs) and Kaitlyn Benson (two RBIs) crafted three hits apiece, while Abby Duke (two RBIs), Devan Fulmer (two RBIs) and Asia Millwood (RBI) racked up two hits each to help the Lady Aggies improve to 4-10 this season.

Ally Hogeland and Rebekah DeBlanc rounded out the offensive performance with one hit apiece.

“We’ve been struggling lately, but we changed the lineup and it worked for us,” Ball said. “We came ready to play today. We’re working on building confidence. We’re getting there.”

Fairview led 1-0 after one and 7-1 after two — never trailing en route to the county triumph.

Good Hope dropped to 5-7 with the loss.

Angelina Flanagan (RBI) and Skylar Tucker (RBI) each secured three hits, while Abby Neighbors (two RBIs) and Jacqueline Hayes tallied two hits apiece. 

Erika Woodall (RBI), Kailee Shikle (RBI) and Bailey Swann also provided one hit apiece.

% Northside 4, Cold Springs 1: The Class 2A No. 8 Lady Eagles fell just short against the defending 4A state champions at Friday’s Bill Collins Classic in Carbon Hill.

Hayden Goodwin (one hit and one RBI) was the lone contributor for Cold Springs (11-5) in the loss.

% Cold Springs 16, Holt 0: The Class 2A No. 8 Lady Eagles eased to a three-inning victory on Friday.

Anna Kate Voce amassed two hits and three RBIs, while Drew Sanders (three RBIs), Victoria Freeman (two RBIs), Shay Sellers (two RBIs), Dez Moore (RBI) and Kylon Hamby corralled one hit apiece at the plate as well. Crimson Gann and Emily Williams also delivered two RBIs apiece.

Sanders compiled two strikeouts in three perfect innings.

% Cullman 11, Hanceville 5: The Lady Bearcats secured their second victory of the season on Friday.

Brandy Peoples (RBI), Savannah Davis (RBI), Alex Stansell and Keslynn Grimmett had two hits apiece for Cullman, while Gracie Cook (two RBIs), Haley Shannon (two RBIs) and Faith Guest (RBI) each had one hit. Sydney Holder notched an RBI as well. Peoples also provided a home run.

Jay Hurst (two hits and two RBIs), Cassidy Campbell (one hit and three RBIs), Taylor Short (one hit) and Gracie Hudspeth (one hit) were the top contributors for Hanceville in the home loss.

% Holly Pond 13, Fairview 5: Kolby Holcombe and Katie Burnham both slugged three hits and two RBIs to propel the Lady Broncos to a county victory on Thursday.

Gracie Bryan (two RBIs) and Kaylee Stallings notched two hits apiece, while Emili Perry (two RBIs), Presley Marks (two RBIs), Taylor Simmons (RBI) and Lexy Smith had one hit each in the win.

Fairview was led by Devan Fulmer, who snagged two hits and one RBI. Kennedy Johnson (two RBIs), Katie Ball, Abby Duke, Rebekah DeBlanc, Anna Scott and Kaitlyn Benson also recorded one hit apiece.

Prep Baseball

% Good Hope 10, Holly Pond 0: The Raiders took care of business in five innings on Friday to claim an easy home victory against the Broncos.

Tyler Legg contributed on the mound (five innings, two hits and nine strikeouts) and at the plate (three hits and three RBIs) to help Good Hope come out on top.

Josiah Cofer (two hits and one RBI), Austin Eakes (two hits), Bailey Quick (two hits), Matthew Dixon (one hit and two RBIs), Harper Chiaranda (one hit and one RBI), Matt Hancock (one hit and one RBI) and Preston Bagwell (one hit and one RBI) also crafted solid at-bats.

Holly Pond’s Charlie Huddleston had his team’s only two hits.

% Cullman 13, Fort Payne 1: The Bearcats secured a five-inning area victory on Thursday.

Weston Norton (three hits and four RBIs) and Grayson Taylor (one hit and two RBIs) each hit homers during the outing. Cooper Beck (RBI), Will Morrison (RBI) and Peyton Colvard all claimed hits as well.

Dylon Wallace, Sam Baker and Braxton Jones combined for five strikeouts on the mound.

Cullman is now 9-6 this season.

% Fairview 23, Curry 0: The Aggies turned in an offensive performance for the ages on Thursday.

Garrett Dunn led the way with four hits and five RBIs, while Scoot Bennett (three RBIs), Truman Boyd (two RBIs), Lane Schnittker (RBI) and Parker Martin all added three hits apiece.

Bryson Fletcher (two hits and three RBIs), Dalton Payne (two hits and two RBIs), Dayne Black (two hits and two RBIs) and Riley Carroll (one hit and two RBIs) rounded out the production at the plate.

Boyd, meanwhile, scattered five hits and eight strikeouts in the five-inning area triumph.

Fairview is now 9-6 this season.

% Oakman 9, Hanceville 4: The Bulldogs couldn’t slow down the Wildcats in Thursday’s area loss.

Hanceville surrendered six runs in the top of the eighth frame to fall to 6-8 following the extra-inning defeat.

Isaac Holmes (three hits and two RBIs) was the top offensive contributor, while Dalton Rice (RBI), Matthew Cornelius, Tate Brown and Josh Stanley notched one hit apiece.

Mark Dyer pitched seven innings and struck out 13 batters en route to the tough loss.

% St. Bernard 9, Holly Pond 0: Lexis Gallegos booted three goals and had one assist to help the Saints roll past the Broncos on Thursday.

Alec Von Thulen (two goals), Jose Zataran (one goal and two assists), Carson Holmes (one goal and one assist), John Christian Rose (one goal and one assist) and Gary Contreras (one goal) also contributed for St. Bernard in the win.

% Cullman 5, Hazel Green 0: The Class 6A No. 5 Lady Bearcats improved to 7-5-3 following Friday’s win.
