KIMBERLY—More renovations are expected at the Kimberly Fire Department.

At Monday night’s council meeting, Chief Chris Hardin discussed details of the project, which has been ongoing ever since a tornado destroyed the station in April of 2014. The next phase of the project hones in on a large bunk room on the second floor of the newly-constructed building.

Hardin has received multiple quotes from different contractors, but a decision has not yet been made as to who will get the job. According to Hardin, three bedrooms will be built alongside a half bathroom. A storage area will go up on the opposite wall, near an existing work out area.

On the right side of the second-floor bunk room, a common area will sit in front of the station’s locker room. There is no timeframe for the project at this time.

The council also discussed the topic of food trucks on Monday night.

Mayor Bob Ellerbrock spoke with council members about options for licensing and how much it should cost trucks to serve food in Kimberly. Unlike food trucks that operate out of Gardendale and Birmingham, those in Kimberly wouldn’t have to compete with any restaurants.

No action was taken but the topic will likely be a focal point at the next council meeting, which is scheduled for March 26 at 6:30 p.m. in city hall.

In other business, the council also:

•discussed the possibility of bringing in Jacob Finley as a volunteer firefighter.

•passed a vote to repair a lawnmower for $650.51.

•voted to purchase eight custom-fit vests for the Kimberly Police Department for $5,744.
