FULTONDALE—At the end of Monday night’s council meeting, Fultondale Mayor Jim Lowery made an announcement on the progress of city hall, which has undergone total renovation following a fire in February of 2017.
“I wanted to say that we will probably be going back in April. We’ll make that announcement at the last meeting of this month. I expect to have one more meeting here [Fultondale Library] but we’ll know for sure then to announce,” said Lowery of the council’s plans moving forward.
After nearly a year of construction, the council began the process of moving back home in January, but more steps must be taken before the move is complete. The council has held meetings at the Fultondale Library and Fultondale Elementary School since the fire took place last February.
Lowery also spoke about the condition of former Fultondale council member Darrell Hubbard, who recently began a bout with medical problems and is currently being treated at UAB Hospital. Hubbard served on the council for 18 years before making his exit in October of 2016.
In other business, the council:
•passed a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter into a contract/easement with Alabama Power Company to install additional lighting at the Fultondale Children’s Park, which is located at 2310 Fulton Road.
•passed a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter in a contract for services with the Prescott House in the amount of $1,800 for support of the child advocacy center for this year.
•heard an announcement for upcoming Easter activities. Fultondale United Methodist Church will put on an Easter egg hunt at the children’s park on March 10. Fultondale First Baptist Church will put on its Easter egg hunt at Black Creek Park on March 31. There will be a sunrise service on April 1 at 6:30 a.m. at Walker Chapel Memorial Gardens.
