Cullman Christian School recently began the process to become accredited by applying for SACS accreditation with AdvancED, the governing body of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
SACS is one of six accreditation organizations that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, and accredits more than 13,000 public and private schools and universities across the south, including the Cullman County and City School Systems and Wallace State Community College.
CCS Principal Wayne Williams said the SACS accreditation is recognized as a seal of approval, and will serve as another indication of the quality of education that is offered at Cullman Christian School.
“It’s a continuous improvement process,” he said. “It is a way of saying to parents that we meet recognized standards in education.”
Cullman Christian School is an independent, Christian school in its eleventh year of operation. The school currently serves 107 students from kindergarten to twelfth grade, and meets in facilities provided through a lease agreement with Seventh Street Baptist Church.
As part of the process of accreditation, the school will host a visit from SACS next week, and will then begin a self-evaluation that will feature input from students, parents, staff members and members of the community. After that, a review team will come to CCS for an external review.
“It’s going well,” he said. “We have a lot of awesome kids and families that are associated with the school, and we are hoping to increase our enrollment next year.”
Williams said he would like to see the school’s enrollment increase to 150 students, and the word about the school is beginning to get out to more parents who want their children to have a Christian-based education.
“We want to offer a safe learning environment for our students,” he said. “Safe physically, emotionally and spiritually.”
