- Isabella Brewer of Cullman gets a visit from Reagan Caen, 2017 Jr. Miss West Point Rodeo, along with mom Heather Brewer, right, and grandmother Joyce McCrocklin of Bremen, left. McCrocklin and her husband Ray will be at tonight’s 35th annual Stars & Stripes Rodeo once again to cheer on their nephew, Missouri-based cowboy Mark Lahmann, the human half of the entertaining Rawhide and Dusty Show (Dusty, you might have guessed, is the horse half of the national-touring duo.)
VINEMONT — Nothing brings people to the Cullman County Agricultural Trade Center like a good rodeo, and this year’s version of West Point High School’s annual event to raise money for its band program was rocking along in style Friday evening.
If you missed the first round of the two-day competition and exhibit, you’re in luck: it’ll all get going again when the rodeo resumes at Saturday. In addition to a second night of competitive riding on the Southeastern Pro Rodeo Association circuit, Saturday’s event will also include the crowning of this year’s Miss West Point Rodeo Queen.
The Rawhide and Dusty Show — a rodeo circuit staple that shows off Mark “Rawhide” Lahmann’s bullwhip crackin’ skills astride Dusty, his faithful horse — will be back for another night of roping and riding as well.
Hosted by the West Point Band Boosters and staged by Double Creek Rodeo, the Stars & Stripes Rodeo is now in its 35th year.
Gates open at the Ag Center Saturday at 5:30 p.m., with rodeo activities beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students, and are available at any Premier Bank location, Jack’s Western Wear, or at Addison Steel Truss.
