- Colony Town Council members, from left, are Curtis Johnson, Mayor Donnis Leeth and new council members Mary Parker and Samuel Ashford.
Colony’s newly sworn council members will join town officials and residents to celebrate Black History Month with a special program Saturday evening.
Samuel Ashford and Mary Parker were recently appointed to fill two seats vacated in September with the resignations of Tammy Malcom and Margaret Dimbo, respectively. Malcom and Dimbo were appointed to the council November 2016 as Mayor Donnis Leeth embarked on his administration.

“We’ve already had two meetings. I’m glad we can meet now and get things done,” Leeth said of the new members. “I brought one of them down to Montgomery with me (Tuesday) to meet with John Cooper with ALDOT to discuss what we can do about our roads.”
Ashford is assigned to the police and fire departments and Parker will oversee finances for the town. They were sworn in as council members in January by Cullman County Probate Judge Tammy Brown.
Looking ahead, the town will host its annual Black History Month celebration beginning at 5 p.m, Saturday, with local students and residents participating in the event. Dinner will be served at the community center.
The town council meets at 6 p.m. at the Colony Community Center on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
