Cullman City Council President Garlan Gudger, Jr. has his sights set on the state capitol, qualifying to run against incumbent Sen. Paul Bussman for the District 4 seat in the GOP primary.
Gudger filed paperwork and paid required party dues to get on the June 5 ballot today as the deadline to qualify approached, said Cullman County GOP Chairman Waid Harbison.
Bussman qualified to run for a third term last week. Gudger did not immediately return request for comment Friday evening.
Several incumbents — all Republican — qualified with no opposition, however independent candidates could possibly qualify at a later date for the general election.
The following are unopposed: Randall Shedd, Alabama House District 11; Matt Gentry, Sheriff; Kerry Watson, Associate County Commissioner, East Side; Greg Nicholas, Circuit Judge, Place 1; Wells “Rusty” Turner, District Judge, Place 2; Lisa Parker McSwain, Circuit Clerk; Kenny Brockman, Cullman County Board of Education, Hanceville District and Mike Graves, Cullman County Board of Education, Vinemont District.
