Cullman police arrest 4 on drug charges

Officers with Cullman Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit arrested four people on various drug charges this week. 

On Tuesday, police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Alabama 157. Neither driver nor passenger inside the vehicle had a valid driver’s license. The passenger was identified as Angel Desiree Johnson, 24, of Vinemont.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered approximately 14.5 grams of methamphetamine along with drug paraphernalia items, Cullman police Sgt. Chris Thomason said in a press release.

Johnson was placed under arrest for unlawful possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Johnson was transported to the Culllman County Detention Center where she remains incarcerated.

Police stopped another vehicle Tuesday for a traffic violation at Cherokee Avenue and Mize Road. Upon developing probable cause to search the vehicle and occupants, officers recovered approximately 121 grams (4 ounces) of marijuana from the driver identified as Matthew Edward Childers, 19, of Cullman, along with a loaded revolver, police said.

Childers was placed under arrest for first-degree unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawfully carrying a pistol without a permit. Childers was transported to the CCD. He was out on federal bond at the time of his arrest.  

On Wednesday, police charged John Edward Goings, 50, of Vinemont, with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.

Officers made a controlled buy on Goings where he sold methamphetamine, Thomason said. Goings was transported to the CCDC. He was on probation at the time of his arrest.

Brandon Christopher Laney, 23, of Good Hope, was charged with three counts counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.

Thomason said officers made three controlled buys from Laney where he sold methamphetamine on each occasion. Laney was arrested and transported to the CCDC where he remains incarcerated. He was also on probation at the time of his arrest.
