PREP TRACK AND FIELD: Cullman’s Wilhite, Franklin snag silver at state indoor meet; Three others bronze

Cullman’s Eli Wilhite and Anna Franklin each picked up silver medals on Day 1 of the state indoor track and field meet at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Wilhite placed second in the Class 6A-7A 3,200-meter run with a quick time of 9:38:04, finishing behind only Homewood’s Will Stone — ranked second nationally in the event — on Friday.

Franklin, meanwhile, netted her second straight second-place finish in the pole vault with a leap of 9-09.
Addison’s Emee Baldwin (pole vault) and St. Bernard’s Andrew Sweeney (3,200-meter run) each placed third in their respective 1A-3A events to nab bronze medals, while West Point’s Shelby Sellers (shot put) accomplished the same feat in 4A-5A competition.
The state indoor track and field meet will wrap up on Saturday.
