Officials look for director to lead Technology Village

- Renta Urban Land Design’s Kaylin Deal works at a desk in the soon-to-open Cullman Technology Village.
Cullman’s new Technology Village will soon be helping small business get off the ground, and is looking for a director to lead it in that effort.
The Technology Village Cullman project is a joint effort between the City of Cullman, Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce, Wallace State Community College and the University of Alabama. The incubator will provide essentially all the resources a new business needs to get off the ground, from hands-on consultation to seed money, with the hope that it will spur the growth of more hi-tech jobs locally and help diversify Cullman’s economy.
The Technology Village Director’s job summary says the position’s duties will include mentoring and coaching, organizing networking events, providing access to the business and government communities, offering access/referrals to sources of capital, and coordinating on-site business seminars and workshops in an entrepreneurial environment.
Once hired, the new director will report to a board of directors, which will be made up of a diverse group of entrepreneurial and community leaders, consultants, mentors, and business leaders who will bring value to clients and strengthen and enhance the entrepreneurial support system.
The director will work with the board when he or she takes over, but much of the incubator’s future will depend on the director’s guidance, said Cullman Economic Development Agency Business Development Manager Jamie Troutman.
She said they would also prefer a candidate who has already been in charge of an incubator or been part of one as an entrepreneur.
“We definitely want someone who who is a self-starter and go-getter,” she said. “They will be responsible for moving the project forward.”
Applications for the position came in slowly at first, but have continued to pick up as the deadline approaches, Troutman said.
“I’ll be excited to see how many there are come Friday,” she said.
