FULTONDALE—The Fultondale City Council has begun the process of moving back into city hall.
The first priority is to get the dispatch computers, phone lines and emergency radios working together smoothly before moving the rest of the services back in.
The city was displaced early last year when a fire gutted city hall.
Public Safety Director David Smith said he hopes to have dispatch back up and working in another week or so and then he hopes to move the inmates back in a week later.
Currently dispatch is being housed in Center Point and the inmates are in the Tarrant Jail.
In other business, the council:
•approved a new street light at 3020 Teresa Drive.
•heard from Mayor Jim Lowery that he is currently working with Alabama Power to possibly begin the process of replacing the city’s lights with LEDs.
•heard from a concerned resident about houses in her neighborhood that are in shambles.
•heard the food bank in the city served 95 families this week. The food bank is run by the city’s churches.
•heard from resident James Sloan that he appreciated the city’s help with a previous issue as well as ask for help with the garbage pickup. According to Sloan, the garbage service has not reliably picked up his trash.
