PREP INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD: Cullman’s Wilhite, West Point’s Appling snag gold medals at MLK Classic

Cullman’s Eli Wilhite and West Point’s Hunter Appling delivered a pair of impressive performances during Monday’s MLK Classic in Birmingham.
The former raced to a fine victory in the 3,200-meter run (9:40.16), while the latter breezed to a solid triumph in the 60-meter hurdles (8:19) to go along with a respectable fourth-place showing in the 60-meter dash.
The Bearcats, which competed in Class 7A-6A, also racked up points from Colton Smith, who was eighth in the high jump.
The Warriors, meanwhile, earned points in 5A-1A from Joshua Couch (eighth in the 60-meter hurdles), Sadie Junkins (fifth in the 60-meter hurdles) and Shelby Sellers (sixth in shot put).
