Hanceville opens warming station

Hanceville City Hall is open for as a warming center as temperatures continue to drop across the area.

Mayor Kenneth Nail said anyone who comes needs to sign in when they enter through the police department.

“We ask that people bring extra blankets and food; we’re not serving food but will keep this available as long as necessary,” Nail said. “We also will pick up people if they become stranded at their home without heat anywhere within the Hanceville fire district.”

Nail said anyone in an emergency situation without heat may call the police department at 256-352-9811 to arrange transportation.

“It wasn’t long ago that a person was left in a trailer and died because he didn’t have heat. That shouldn’t happen anywhere in this country,” Nail said. “If someone is in that condition and can get word to us we will pick you up and bring you here to stay warm.”

Hanceville City Hall is located at 112 Commercial St., downtown.
