The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office continued its search into the night late Friday for Te Ti Taimi and one other unnamed suspect, whom they say fled a standoff at a Holly Pond-area residence by ramming a pickup truck through the garage door and crashing it into investigators’ vehicles.

The two suspects allegedly fled the scene earlier Friday afternoon with a child in their custody. Law enforcement currently is not giving out information about the identity of the child, except to confirm that the minor is Taimi’s child.

The sheriff’s office acknowledged that a second child, also Taimi’s, may also be with the alleged suspects.

At a press conference Friday evening, Sheriff Matt Gentry confirmed an officer-involved shooting after at least one suspect allegedly brandished a weapon at the alleged crime scene, but said the Alabama Bureau of Investigation is handling the matter and gave no further details.

Gentry did say that law enforcement had continued to remain in contact with at least one of the suspects via a family member, and that he does not believe the suspects are significantly injured. He added that no deputy was injured in the incident.

“We do have a family member that has spoken to the suspects,” Gentry said. “We do know that at least one of the children is with him, and we are still currently working to locate them.”

The suspects are believed to have fled on foot after a brief pursuit away from the residence and onto Alabama Highway 91, where the pickup truck had crashed.

Taimi, 36, recently had been arrested on a burglary charge, Gentry said, and investigators visited the residence to inquire about a separate, more recent burglary.

While Gentry tried to assuage area residents’ concerns by saying deputies have established a perimeter around the location where the suspects are believed to remain, he did caution that the suspects should be considered armed and dangerous.

Gentry also advised people to lock their doors, be aware of their environment, and call the sheriff’s office at 256-734-0342 with any information related to the case.
