The driver of a pickup truck was killed Thursday at Hanceville, in a collision with an 18-wheeler that also sent a passenger in the man’s vehicle to the hospital.

Burshel Eugene Boatrite, 74, of Crane Hill died after being transported by ambulance to a Birmingham hospital following the accident. A female passenger in Boatrite’s pickup was injured and also transported by ambulance.

The driver of the 18 wheeler, said authorities, was not injured.

Emergency workers responded at the scene of the two-vehicle accident at approximately 5:05 p.m. Thursday, which occurred at the intersection of Edmondson Road and Alabama Highway 91.

The accident closed the road for approximately three and a half hours, according to Hanceville Mayor Kenneth Nail.
